inspiration from the yoga sutras

Hi all,

I read this the other day and felt inspired that it help me throughout the cleanse. It's from the Yoga Sutras I:14:

"Persevering practice is the effort to attain and maintai the state of mental peace. And this is firmly rooted, being well attended to for a long time without interruption and devotion. "

This helped me last night while I was working and someone decided to bring in two huge vats of skittles and my personal favorite, mini reeses peanut butter cups. oh, and reminding myself that discipline means remembering what you want - was the mantra of the evening ;-)

OM!

Turnip Curry

Here's the recipe for my smashing lunch today:

2 tsp good oil (i used coconut)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 small onion
1/2 tsp garlic, minced
3/4 TBL ginger, minced
4C turnip, peeled and cubed
1/2C Water
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp sea salt
cayenne to taste (easy, pittas!)
1 tsp maple syrup

Heat oil and add cumin seeds. let sizzle for 30 seconds and add onions. saute for a minute. add garlic and ginger and saute for another minute. Add turnips, water, turmeric, salt, and cayenne. Stir and reduce heat. Cover and cook for 30-40 minutes or until turnips are sort of mushy. if need more water, add a bit more. Add maple syrup at the end.

I served this with collards and tempeh both cooked in coconut oil and put over rice. Delicious!
This recipe was adapted from the original "grandmas turnip curry" from the MODERN AYURVEDIC cookbook by Amrita Sondhi. It's great, you should check it out!
